Notes from July sessions – from staff wiki to cloud storage

So we had another session during the July break. A huge thanks to the dedicated folk who made it in to share ideas and resources. We talked about useful sites online, how to share resources better, ideas for student and teacher wikis and more. I’ll put up some brief notes here.. if you want more details on anything, get in touch or leave a comment.

Great suggestions:

Can you help? people are searching for:

  • internet resources focussing on numeracy (Paula)
  • video quiz tool (Michael).

Useful sites people have used in the classroom:

Other topics we talked about:

  • We also looked at digital signatures (..can anyone remember why?)
  • “NAS drives” (A NAS drive is an electronic box for storing & sharing files. You can have one at home or at the office. NAS: network attached storage.)
  • .. and cloud storage (microsoft, apple, google, dropbox) as well as web-based office suites.
  • Student drive – when and how? Word is that Ninad has replaced and updated the student server. This should mean that you can once more set up a class folder on the network drive to share documents with your students.
  • Shruti & michael spoke briefly about different kind of file manager with “dual pane” folder. (eg this one called 2xExplorer – let me know Shruti if you want more information.)
