Jon Stewart Derides Dubya People (Osama-related)
May 15th, 2011 by michael chalk

Aah Jon Stewart. Sometimes you need a little heavy-handed humour. i know the whole experience has been very Team America: World Police; and what we’re looking at is a political assassination of the craziest kind. Killing an unarmed alleged mass murderer in his pyjamas etc. Not to mention the singing and dancing in the street. But ..How About the Bush People trying to take credit for killing Bin Laden?! No wait, it was Reagan who got him. If you need some laughter on the topic, watch this video.

dr brown heals what ails ya
May 11th, 2011 by michael chalk

Lou and I went to see dr brown play the tuxedo cat. It was the final night of the mammoth comedy festival and our last chance to catch this californian doctor clown this year.

He is insane. We hooted with laughter, and I can’t even remember why. He’s just really silly, and open, and ridiculous.

But the lovely thing was this: the week before i’d been to his “clowning with doctor brown” workshop, and as i saw him in performance – it all made sense. Everything he’d been trying to teach us, all the wisdom he’d aimed to impart; it all fell into place.

The workshop was crazy. I went because Lynne and Ahmarnya were going, and i’d wanted to try this for a while. The thing about simple clown is not that you have to make people laugh, which is good as I have no skills in physical comedy, but that when you fail – people need to see and feel your genuine emotional response. You need to connect authentically. To be vulnerable.

We all try to act upset, or show our masks of distress and failure, but the clown can simply be open and present, and let the whole world in.

It feels impossible, the more you try, the more you fail even at failing.

And then comes a moment of extreme frustration where you surrender completely, and the doctor calls out, “Yes you’re beautiful right there, we love you there!” Ah, thank heavens i got it finally, the surrender moment.

of course, if you can make people laugh.. it’s a whole lot better.

Some people go destructive, other people make art

Dude you have no Qu’ran.

You’ve got to love the Autotune remixes.

i don’t know what’s going on in the USA at the moment. They’ve got a brilliant leader, and a whole bunch of intelligent creative compassionate people working for social change, but somehow there’s still idiots who want to burn Holy Books during a really ugly world war.

And then there’s the cool people who just run up and spoil the media event.
On top of that, someone is going to make an autotune remix out of anything these days.

Thinking:

One of the comments on the youtube video page was this:
‘so, let me get this straight: hippies love to burn flags but can’t stand to see the Koran get burnt?’

Interesting point.

i think it’s a bit like Jewish jokes.
You can make all the anti-Jewish jokes you like, if you are in fact a Jewish person.

You can burn the US flag if you’re a US citizen.
(okay, it’s not legal, i mean under my rules which i’m making up right now)

You can criticise the heck out of your own relationship, tear yourself to shreds, burn the Bible if you’re raised a Christian, find the weak spots in your cooking strategies, etc.

But lay off other people’s business.

Election – the aftermath
Aug 23rd, 2010 by michael chalk

Following the series of election videos comes this triumph from Taiwan. This is a must-watch video!!
Especially for Julia’s laughter at the crucial moment.
Yes the commentary is in Taiwanese (i think), but you get the picture.

And a very good turn from Paul Keating on Radio national breakfast, before the election (while Rudd was still at the helm).
“Goodness of heart is a requirement for a good country”.

Nathan has been camping out here at the Barkly St .. not only has he been an angel to live with, and inducted me into the world of Nintendo Wii, but also shared crazy stories like the Zombie Street Sign Hacker of Texas .. and this video he made with his hilarious friends.

i recommend you watch it.

Who ate the cheese?

Somewhere, there must be a link to more videos like this .. yes, here: Justin Juswah has a youTube channel.

"Du rouge a levres sur une cochonne" .. too funny!
Nov 3rd, 2008 by michael chalk

Two Canadian comedians make fun of Sarah Palin, with her full co-operation. Tim turned up at my house this morning and told me about it, so i had to listen.

Sarah doesn’t notice when he gives the wrong name for the Canadian Prime Minister, she doesn’t seem to shudder when he says he loves killing baby seals ..

Even dumber than Dan Quayle, it seems.

But ouch .. the Hustler joke was going too far, wasn’t it?

Did she not notice the French “Prime Minister” telling her he loved watching a porn-u-mentary about her, or did she diplomatically let it slide? You wouldn’t expect sexual harrassment from one head of state to another (potentially on the same level) .. but i’m sure it happens.

Link: BBC also.

On the positive side, listen to this guy on the BBC .. ‘Redneck votes for Obama’. Good man.
